Old Course St. Andrews Hole #17 Road Hole
My favorite hole in the entire world, and the most difficult hole in all of golf, I filmed all my strokes on this hole. The tee shot requires to fly the ball over the actual Old Course Hotel. Protecting the green is the most famous sand trap in all of golf, The Road Hole Bunker. Over the green is part of an actual road that the ball must be played off of if it lies there. I hit a terrific drive down the right side of the fairway, where my caddie tells me the pros drive it. I then play a smart 5 iron shot slightly right and long, avoiding the road hole bunker itself, and avoiding hitting over it for my next shot, by clearing the green and just dribbling over the road behind the green. The wall behind the road did not come into play (thank goodness). I then hit a very efficient chip shot back over the road and into the bank of the green, and it dribbles into the fringe leaving myself a run at par. I lag my first putt close to the hole and tap in for a bogey 5, actually a good score on this hole. Later in the day I climbed the wall and crossed the road and scooped some sand from the Road Hole Bunker which is now on display in my office back in the States.
